Back Pain Treatments and Tips That Work

My name is Jason Dawson and if you have chronic back pain, I'm glad that you've found my blog. After an accident, I suffered with back pain for several years until I started visiting a chiropractor. I could tell a difference in the severity of my back pain after only a few treatments. I continued seeing the chiropractor on a regular basis and today my back pain is gone. When I had excruciating back pain, I couldn't enjoy any physical activities and some days I could barely walk. I'm writing this blog so that I can help others who have back pain. In my blog you'll learn about chiropractors and how they can help you. You'll also learn some things that you can do at home that will lessen the pain in your back.

4 Potential Mistakes To Avoid When Dealing With Neck Pain

by Nandy Dannenberg

Neck pain is a problem that plagues many people and is notoriously difficult to treat because there can be so many different causes of the pain in the first place. If you're dealing with neck pain, the first thing you'll want to do is see a doctor. In the meantime, however, there are some mistakes you'll want to avoid when it comes to getting the pain relief you're looking for.

Relying on Painkillers

Yes, painkillers can be a viable short-term solution to severe neck pain, but they should not be seen as a long-term treatment for persistent neck pain. Not only can painkillers have negative side effects on the body, but they don't treat the cause of the pain itself--only the effects. The same goes for pain-killing cortisone shots, which may help temporarily but won't do you any good in the long run.

Applying a Heating Pad

Generally, applying a heating pad is not recommended for neck pain unless the cause of the pain is something like muscle spasms or fibromyalgia. Other sources of neck pain that cause inflammation can actually make inflammation worse. Instead, neck pain caused by inflammation should be treated with cold rather than heat.

Ignoring the Importance of Posture

A lot of times, neck pain is caused by bad posture, so don't forget to consider this as a possibility if you're dealing with such pain. This is especially important if you work in an office setting where you spend a lot of time sitting at a desk throughout the day. Ergonomics are important here when it comes to avoiding neck pain, so be sure that you have an ergonomic desk chair and that your keyboard tray, computer monitor, and chair height are all at a comfortable position while working.

Being Afraid to See a Chiropractor

Finally, if your neck pain persists, don't hesitate to see a professional chiropractor. All too often, people are skeptical about the idea of seeing a chiropractor because they believe that seeing a regular doctor is just as effective when it comes to treatment. In reality, chiropractors are highly trained to diagnose and treat spinal issues, including those that lead to neck pain.

There are a lot of mistakes you can make when it comes to handling neck pain. By avoiding these common mistakes, you can work towards treating your neck pain successfully and going on to live your life free from that discomfort.
