Back Pain Treatments and Tips That Work

My name is Jason Dawson and if you have chronic back pain, I'm glad that you've found my blog. After an accident, I suffered with back pain for several years until I started visiting a chiropractor. I could tell a difference in the severity of my back pain after only a few treatments. I continued seeing the chiropractor on a regular basis and today my back pain is gone. When I had excruciating back pain, I couldn't enjoy any physical activities and some days I could barely walk. I'm writing this blog so that I can help others who have back pain. In my blog you'll learn about chiropractors and how they can help you. You'll also learn some things that you can do at home that will lessen the pain in your back.

3 Things To Expect When You Visit The Chiropractor For The First Time

by Nandy Dannenberg

Despite becoming more and more accepted by people inside and outside of the medical field, there are still a lot of myths and confusion surrounding chiropractic care. If you've decided to schedule or are considering scheduling an appointment with a chiropractor, you might be wondering what to expect when you show up. Listed below are three things to expect when you visit the chiropractor for the first time.

1. You Will Receive a Physical Exam

A chiropractor is a doctor, just like your regular physician, and he or she will want to thoroughly assess your symptoms with a physical exam before beginning your adjustment. Your chiropractor will examine your whole spine, even if your pain is only localized to one area since irritation in one area can often originate from somewhere completely different. Additionally, you will most likely have x-rays performed so that the chiropractors can see the wear on your spine, as well as any abnormalities that could be the cause of your pain.

2. The Adjustment Does Not Last Long, and Should be Painless

Chiropractic adjustments normally take less than ten minutes. Your first appointment will take longer because of the physical exam, x-rays, etc., but after that, you will be able to get in and out of the chiropractor easily. It is important to note, too, that your adjustment (where the chiropractic puts pressure on certain areas of your spine in order to pop it) should not be painful. You may experience a little discomfort or soreness the next day, but that is all. If you do feel pain, tell the chiropractor immediately.

3. You Will be Asked to Make Another Appointment

While many patients feel relief after just one chiropractic adjustment, it will take several appointments for your pain to completely go away and stay away. Most insurances cover chiropractic care, so you can work with your chiropractor and your insurance company to create a payment plan that fits your budget. A chiropractor's goal is to treat your pain from the origin, rather than simply masking symptoms, so it's important to remember that it takes time to completely heal.

If you're hesitant to visit the chiropractor or are nervous about what your first appointment will be like, keep the facts listed above in mind. Also, remember: above all else, a chiropractor (such as one from Stroud Chiropractic Clinic), like any other doctor, puts your health and wellness first, and wants you to feel comfortable in his or her office and wants to help you feel the best you can. So put your worries aside; you'll be moving more easily in no time.
