Back Pain Treatments and Tips That Work

My name is Jason Dawson and if you have chronic back pain, I'm glad that you've found my blog. After an accident, I suffered with back pain for several years until I started visiting a chiropractor. I could tell a difference in the severity of my back pain after only a few treatments. I continued seeing the chiropractor on a regular basis and today my back pain is gone. When I had excruciating back pain, I couldn't enjoy any physical activities and some days I could barely walk. I'm writing this blog so that I can help others who have back pain. In my blog you'll learn about chiropractors and how they can help you. You'll also learn some things that you can do at home that will lessen the pain in your back.

Chiropractic Care During Pregnancy

by Nandy Dannenberg

If you have ever visited a chiropractor to manage your neck, spinal, or lower back pain, then you known how effective chiropractic care is. It is also highly effective in treating pregnancy-related pain and immobility problems. Here are some ways your chiropractor can help you cope with gait problems, back pain, and fatigue both during and after your pregnancy:

Relief From Sciatica

Pregnant women often suffer from sciatic nerve pain. When the uterus and other structures compress the sciatic nerve, sciatica can develop. Pregnancy-related sciatica can cause extreme one-sided lower back pain that radiates down the buttock, hip, leg, and foot.

While sciatica often resolves after childbirth, it can become a lifelong problem and can exacerbate degenerative disorders of the spine such as osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis. While existing damage from these conditions are usually irreversible, further damage can be slowed with appropriate chiropractic treatments.

Your chiropractor can perform a spinal manipulation to help correct a misalignment, diminish inflammation, enhance circulation, and promote blood flow. The chiropractic physician may also recommend heat treatments, ultrasonic treatments, and ice therapy to help keep you comfortable during your sciatica flare-up.

Chiropractic treatments for pregnancy-related sciatic nerve pain is an excellent option for women who want medication-free pain relief options. Avoiding medications, both prescription and over-the-counter medications during pregnancy, especially during the first trimester, may help avoid fetal side effects from maternal medication use.

Correct Balance Issues

The changing distribution of your weight during pregnancy can change your base of support. When this happens, you may develop balance problems and back pain. Your chiropractic treatments can help enhance your gait, while decreasing your risk for balance problems through therapeutic massage and spinal adjustments.

Balance problems during pregnancy can raise your risk for falls and subsequent injury to your baby. Also, improper posture during pregnancy can cause a swayback-type posture, which can put additional pressure on your spinal cord, sciatic nerve, hips, and knees. Your chiropractic physician can also show you how to do exercises that will help improve your balance and strengthen your spine so that your posture remains optimal.

If you are pregnant and have balance problems or sciatic nerve pain, make an appointment with your chiropractic physician. He or she will perform a comprehensive spinal examination and develop an effective treatment plan to resolve your symptoms. Chiropractic treatment is often recommended during pregnancy because it offers non-pharmaceutical treatment options for pain, inflammation, anxiety, and insomnia.
