Back Pain Treatments and Tips That Work

My name is Jason Dawson and if you have chronic back pain, I'm glad that you've found my blog. After an accident, I suffered with back pain for several years until I started visiting a chiropractor. I could tell a difference in the severity of my back pain after only a few treatments. I continued seeing the chiropractor on a regular basis and today my back pain is gone. When I had excruciating back pain, I couldn't enjoy any physical activities and some days I could barely walk. I'm writing this blog so that I can help others who have back pain. In my blog you'll learn about chiropractors and how they can help you. You'll also learn some things that you can do at home that will lessen the pain in your back.

3 Common Post-Car-Crash Injuries A Chiropractor Can Treat

by Nandy Dannenberg

Every car accident is different, and every accident results in a different level of injuries. Most serious car crash injuries such as concussions, bone fractures, and dislocations need to be treated by a team of medical doctors. However, there are a few relatively common car crash injuries that can actually be managed by a chiropractor.

Whiplash

Whiplash is a really common car crash injury involving the neck. When your head quickly snaps forward and then back, as is common in a car crash, this puts a strain on the muscles, tendons, and ligaments in the neck. You may not feel the pain at first, but a day or two later, your neck will feel stiff and sore.

A chiropractor is actually an excellent choice for treating whiplash. They can align the spine in your neck to ensure that the vertebrae are not putting any extra tension on the soft tissues. This is important since whiplash can often force the vertebrae out of place, which is why it can take so long to heal. By keeping the vertebrae in line, a chiropractor makes other treatments, like massage and stretching, more effective.

Herniated Discs

A herniated disc occurs when the material inside one of your vertebral discs bulges out the side. This is a pretty common consequence of a car crash. It causes pretty extensive back pain, often along with nerve-related symptoms like tingling in the extremities.

While severe herniated discs can be treated surgically, most mild to moderate cases can be treated by a chiropractor. They will adjust your spinal alignment to take the pressure off the affected discs, which will allow them to heal. Your chiropractor may also give you exercises to do at home in order to further ease the pain and perpetuate healing.

Strains and Sprains

If you sprain or strain a ligament in your ankle, wrist, shoulder, knee, or another joint during the accident, seeing a chiropractor can be really helpful. These injuries will heal on their own if you're patient, but chiropractic care can help heal them faster. Your chiropractor can use treatments like massage, gentle stretching, and cold therapy to alleviate inflammation, which will thereby lower your pain levels. They can also ensure the joint is properly aligned, which will go a long way towards healing.

If you develop any of the injuries above after a car crash, work with a car accident chiropractor. Most have plenty of experience working with car crash victims and can do a lot to help you heal.
